Interests

Being a parent is a full time job however when I get the chance, most of my spare time is spent rennovating the house. When I get the chance I like to go mountain biking and get out in the fresh air. Biking, Hiking anything outdoors I find fun. Most holidays are spent camping, beach holidays aren't my thing. Like I always say Camping is "in tents".

The TA

In 2006 I decided I would like a different kind of challenge so I looked to join my local TA unit. After doing a bit of research I found 131 Independent Commando Squadron RE. They are a reserve unit affiliated to 24 Commando Regiment Royal Engineers. They provide general engineering support to 3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines and are the largest TA Commando unit.

As a Commando unit the majority of personnel have completed the Reserve Forces Commando Course, run by the Royal Marines at Lympstone. This demanding course ensures that it's reserve members reach the same physical standard as it's regular counterparts and is the foundation for all further training.

In November 2007 I completed my training and received the coverted Green Beret. In September 2008 I deployed to Afghanistan on Herrick 9 where I spent my time in Sangin in Northern Helmand working on engineering projects.

Because of family commitments I left in 2010. To this day my time with the TA remain remains one of the most important and memorable periods of my life.
